The lightweight gel/foam ear cushions offer comfort for extended wear. | You'll enjoy convenient, comfortable hearing protection from the WorkTunes headset, which features lightweight gel/foam cushions that feel great even after wearing for an entire day, an adjustable stainless steel headband with padded top. Hearing protectors are recommended whenever you encounter extended periods of sound levels regularly exceeding 85 dBA--essentially, a level of noise where you feel the need to shout in order to be heard by someone just 3-feet away (see a chart showing typical sound levels). The radio and its controls are housed in one cup, and you'll be able to quickly tune to your desired AM or FM radio stations with the easily accessible seek/scan tuning buttons. Reception strength may vary depending upon location. You can also save up to 10-preset stations with a dedicated key that sits below the LCD screen, which offers a large-sized display of the radio frequency. Other controls include a combined on/off/volume control and a toggle button that switches between AM and FM radio. The LCD screen also offers a low battery indicator (see a larger schematic image of all controls). You can also connect an optional MP3 player (such as an Apple iPod), CD player or other portable devices such as a scanner via the stereo input jack (35.mm male-to-male cable not included). Got these for my husband so he could listen to the radio or mp3 player while mowing the lawn. He like them, but as others have said, there's no amplifier for the mp3 signal pumped in, so volume control of the mp3s is from the player, not the headphones.

I bought it mainly to listen to an mp3 player while mowing the lawn - works pretty good for that. If that's all you buy it for, don't bother buying batteries - your player's amplifier is the only thing boosting that signal to the phones. The radio requires batteries, and works OK on FM, at least in the rural area where I live (pulls in all 4 local FM stations). AM is very directional - turn your head, and you miss the play - not recommended for listening to sports. The phones do a good job of keeping outside noise out, but the volume isn't real loud. Loud enough to hear the music, yes, but not very loud if you happen to like LOUD music. Definitely loud enough for me though. A little tight on the head, but that helps keep them on your head when ducking under a tree limb. Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase.
Great noise protection, mediocre radio September 4, 2010

Now that my ears are permanently ruined by loud guitars, cars and garden equipment I finally got noise protection. These most definitely block out the noise. While the radio works, it's less than stellar. I live in a NYC suburb and the AM tuner is pretty bad. Improve the tuner section and they have a great product. The Amazon price was less than I saw it for elsewhere.

I love my new hearing protectors, I should have bought these long ago. They do a great job in reducing the noise levels I encounter on a daily basis in my line of work (Construction), there so much bettor and enjoyable than ear plugs.
